The Art of Sanitization: UV vs. Steam Sterilization

At HelloGooGooGaga, we believe that a pristine nursery starts with the right ritual. When it comes to milk bottles and pacifiers, two schools of thought prevail: the modern precision of UV Sterilization and the classic warmth of Steam Sterilization.

Each method has its own integrity. Here is a study of their nuances to help you choose the path that fits your lifestyle.

UV Sterrilization  Steam Sterillization
Mechanism Uses UVC light to destroy germ DNA DNA.Uses high-heat water vapor to kill bacteria.
Pros Dry & Ready: Cycles include drying; acts as sterile storage. Deep Penetration: Reaches every nook of teats and valves.

Versatile: Can sanitize toys, remotes, and electronics. Speed: Faster cycles for quick turnaround.

Low Maintenance: No water or descaling needed. Material Friendly: Less likely to cause yellowing.

Superior Degreasing: The intense heat of steam can help remove breastmilk oil and fatty residue, especially if the bottle wasn't scrubbed perfectly.
Cons Shadowing: Must not overlap items (light needs a direct path). Moisture: Items stay wet (unless it has a drying motor).

Material Aging: Can cause plastics/silicone to yellow over time. High Maintenance: Requires frequent descaling of the heating plate.
Best For Glass bottles, T-Ester, and multi-purpose item sanitizing. PPSU, PP, and those who prefer a traditional deep clean.

Quick Material Guide

  • Glass & T-Ester: High compatibility with both. No yellowing.
  • PPSU: Durable for both, but will turn golden/yellow faster in UV.
  • Silicone (Teats): Safe for both, but check for brittleness if using UV long-term.
